During your lengthy playthrough of The First Berserker: Khazan, you’ll loot, craft, and acquire plenty of weapons, but there are only three weapon classes in total, which is great because you can experiment easily, but their unique playstyles may also lead to choice paralysis.

If you’re just starting out in the game, I’m here to help you pick the best weapon class in The First Berserker: Khazan which covers all bases.

Best Starting Weapon Class

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, but the Spear is my pick for the best weapon class in The First Berserker: Khazan. It’s a versatile weapon that is both extremely deadly and easy to use. It scales with Proficiency and Willpower and can output an absurd amount of damage. Here are a few advantages of using the Spear over the Dual Wield and Greatsword classes.

  • Range: Like in other Souls titles, the Spear has a key advantage due to its length. It provides ample range, allowing you to maintain distance from your enemies. In most cases, you’ll remain safe as long as you keep poking at enemies and bosses.
  • Fast Pokes: Thanks to its range and reach, the Spear lets you poke enemies from afar. This has multiple uses because not only can you interrupt certain attacks, but you can keep doing a small amount of damage that accumulates over time. With other weapons, you have to commit more to your attacks, but with the Spear, poking is the go-to strategy, which serves as a finishing blow in many cases.
  • Moonlight Stance: As you work your way through the Skill Tree, the Moonlight Stance starts to play an active role in your combos. It buffs attacks and adds plenty of flash and flair to your light and heavies. This can lead to some crazy damage and it can become hard to read the action on-screen, which is not a bad thing at all.
  • Improved Stamina Damage: Skills like Breakdown do increased stamina damage to enemies affected by Brink Guard. This encourages players to actively utilize the Brink Guard mechanic, which refills the stamina of Khazan almost instantly, and in turn, leads to higher stamina damage thanks to Breakdown.
  • Crowd Control: If you’re tired of mobs ganging up on you and want a quick way to deal with them, the Spear is your best friend. A simple 2-hit potent blow combo does the trick and clears everyone in your path.
  • Ease of Use: The spear has a pretty straightforward moveset and the weapon doesn’t feel situational. You don’t have to time your attacks perfectly or watch for your health. Just poke enemies, enter Moonlight Stance, get closer in, break their stamina, and do tons of damage.

Obviously this is my subjective take on the weapon class matter. I’m sure someone might find a different weapon class more suited to beginners, but I think the Spear is the way to go, especially if you’re struggling. It has tons of combat depth, plenty of fun skills to unlock, and an addictive playstyle that brings out the best of Khazan’s many offensive and defensive mechanics.
