Path of Exile 2 is a semi-open world game in which you constantly travel through large areas that are separated into parts and sections. Most players get lost when trying to finish objectives, and so most look to the map to see if they are in the right area to finish a quest.
You’d be forgiven for trying to press “M” because, naturally, that would seem like the button to open the map. However, opening the map is actually a bit counterintuitive in Path of Exile 2. So here’s how you can open it, including tweaking the minimap settings and tips for tracking objectives.
How to Open Your Map in Path of Exile 2
To open your map in Path of Exile 2, you must click the tiny exclamation point next to your objective or quest tracker on the upper-right side of your screen. This opens the map and your list of quests. You can also press “U” to open the map, and you’ll have to open the quest tab icon to see your quests. Selecting any waypoints will also open the map since it will then show you where you can fast travel to.
It is funny that the keybind “M” opens up the microtransaction shop, where that button naturally feels like the map button in most games. You can change this keybind in the settings by opening the main menu and going to options. Go to the Input tab and scroll down until you see the “World Screen.” Put any keybind you prefer in here so that you can open the map screen more naturally, perhaps.
It is also worth noting that once you unlock mapping, you’ll literally open up an atlas, which is different from this world map.
How to Track Quests in Path of Exile 2
When you have your map open, you can see all your quests, including the ones you have finished. To track the quest, select the quest you want to track, and it should highlight the path to where you need to go on the map. Since the quest tab covers 1/4 of your screen, you can minimize the quest tab by pressing the arrow in the upper-right corner. This should leave the quest being tracked, and you can clearly see the whole map.
How to Toggle and Adjust the Minimap in Path of Exile 2
You can also adjust your minimap through the settings to better navigate your path. Go to the main menu and open options. Then, go to the Interface tab and scroll down until you reach the map section.
You can adjust the look and feel of your minimap by using the landscape and map transparency settings. Personally, I reduce the Landscape Transparency to 0 and maximize the Map Transparency. This helps me see the edges or runnable areas more clearly without giving you too much screen traffic. While playing, I press “Tab” to place the minimap on the center of my screen instead of watching it in the upper-right corner. This setting may help you a little bit more when navigating through mazes, especially when you are trying to ascend your class by finishing the Trials.
These are all just preferences, and it is really up to you how you want to adjust your map settings.
