Save your files first!

DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake is another Unreal Engine remake from Square Enix that brings a classic JRPG to modern consoles, yet again. The magic of Dragon Quest 3 is preserved in this remake, and there’s a lot of care put into not only adding quality-of-life features but improving the overall experience on a visual and technical level as well. If you’re looking to back up your local progress for future runs though, here is the Dragon Quest 3 Remake save file location.

Does Dragon Quest 3 Remake Have Steam Cloud Support?

Dragon Quest 3 Remake has Steam Cloud support on PC which means that you can pick up your progress on a different platform as long as you have an internet connection to upload and download the files to the Steam servers.

It’s also verified for the Steam Deck, which can run it surprisingly well, and even hold 60 FPS if you’re willing to spare some battery life.

Fixing the Dragon Quest 3 Remake Controller Issues

Even though Dragon Quest 3 Remake lists support for the DualShock 4 and DualSense on the Steam page, it’s not native support. This means that you’ll have to rely on Steam Input for the controllers to function properly.

To enable Steam Input specifically for the game, follow the steps below:

  • Make sure Dragon Quest 3 Remake isn’t running
  • Open Steam and navigate to your library
  • Here, right-click on Dragon Quest 3 Remake and select Properties
  • In the Controller tab, select the Enable Steam Input option under Override for Dragon Quest 3 Remake

With Steam Input enabled, the connected controllers should work right. For Xbox controllers, it doesn’t matter what you set this to, as the game has native support for those.

Check Detected Controllers

If your controller isn’t working even after enabling Steam Input make sure Steam is detecting the ones you have plugged in.

To check detected controllers in the Steam client, simply select Steam > Settings > Controller:

Overall, Dragon Quest 3 Remake is a fantastic reimagining of the classic JPRG, and the PC version is pretty good for the most part. Minor annoyances aside, like the resolution options not working properly, it’s a solid port.
