Which Starter Pack Should You Choose in Pokemon TCG Pocket?

Once you start playing Pokemon TCG Pocket, you’ll be given a choice between a Charizard, a Mewtwo, and a Pikachu pack. Pokemon fans are all too familiar with this decision as their choice has a lot of weight on what they’ll experience throughout the game. However, in Pokemon TCG Pocket, it isn’t that serious. While there are many differences between the three starter packs, it doesn’t matter as much. Here’s all the information you need to know about the three starter packs so you can decide which type of pack to choose in Pokemon TCG Pocket.

What’s the Difference Among the Three Starter Packs in Pokemon TCG Pocket?

Pokemon TCG Pocket offers you three different packs:

• Genetic Apex Charizard Pack
• Genetic Apex Mewtwo Pack
• Genetic Apex Pikachu Pack

Each type of pack comes from the same “Genetic Apex” set, which, once opened, offers roughly the same set of cards to the player. However, there are various differences.

Each Genetic Apex pack type (Pikachu, Mewtwo, and Charizard) will have at least 80 card differences from the Genetic Apex set.

As the set features Pokemon and Trainers from the first generation, the Kanto starter Pokemon are split among the three types of Genetic Apex types:

• Pikachu – Pikachu, Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise
• Mewtwo – Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur
• Charizard – Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard

Note: It is also worth mentioning that Mewtwo is exclusive to the Mewtwo pack, and Mew is attainable on all the packs. Charizard…. has Charizard, which honestly is unfair to every other pack, right?

These starter Pokemons have normal, full art, and special art rares versions (maybe even more), which is all too common for Pokemon TCG collectors, meaning a single card exclusive to each Genetic Apex set will have different and special variations that will also be exclusive to the Genetic Apex pack type.

Most players will only need this information to make a decision on which set to pick, but there are also other Pokemon that are exclusive to each set, such as Caterpie, Metapod, and Butterfree to the Pikachu packs, Weedle, Kakuna, and Beedrill to the Mewtwo packs, and Oddish, Gloom, and Vileplume to the Charizard pack.

Ultimately, it is up to you to choose which pack to open. When you play the game, you’ll always have the option to choose among the three packs, so the starter pack doesn’t really matter because the odds of pulling a rare card are abysmal. Then again, you can reroll your account to keep pulling until you get an extremely rare card.
