4 Best Starting Locations in Pax Dei

The neighbors are noisy again!

Pax Dei isn’t your typical survival-crafting game, then again, it is marketed as an MMORPG. You’ll play in a sandbox world with thousands of other players, and everyone is gunning for the best plot slot out there. Your starting area wouldn’t matter because every area is balanced. However, placing your starting plot does because this is where you are going to build up your base. Here are the best starting locations you can place your starting plot in Pax Dei.

Riverbank

Building your base near the river has several benefits, especially in the early game. You can get Flint by picking up Flint Rocks, which almost exclusively spawns near the river. This resource alone helps you craft the basic tools needed to unlock other workbenches.

The area is also rich in food, and you can occasionally find animals around for some Bone Fragments, Sinew, Hides, and Meat. Trees are also found everywhere, so you won’t have problems getting some Sapwood. Flax also spawns near the vicinity, and other plants and mushrooms spawn near these as well.

Depending on your starting area, you could be far from the mountains, which have Iron Ores, Granite, and other useful resources. But, you have to take the good with the bad.

Mountain Range

The mountainous area is rich with Gneiss, Granite, and Iron Deposits. The Iron Deposits alone make it worth it to build a base near it. Since you’ll be needing hundreds of Iron Ores for your Iron Ingots and Blacksmithing recipes, you’ll never have a problem running out of these resources.

You can also find resources like Flax, Barley, and Berries around the area. Trees still spawn here, so Sapwood will never be a problem. Animals like boars and foxes frequent the area so you’ll also get your Leatherworking and Fletching resources easily. The only problem is traversing down the mountains every time you want to explore. Again, you take the good with the bad.

Plains or Meadows

Some areas have greener pastures, like the plains. Skipping over that double entendre, the best benefit of building in the plains is that the area is much flatter, which makes it easy to build a foundation. These areas are typically in the middle of everything so you’ll also get better access to all resources if you run a little bit more.

It has its fair share of resources, such as Flax, Sapwood, and Gneiss. Surprisingly, you can also find Clay lying around the grass. Animals like deer and boars also spawn around the area. You have your source of meat and you can get berries around the areas too.

Forest

The forest isn’t exactly an appealing choice as a starting location, and it really isn’t if you plan on building one inside it. You want to build your base just next to it and capitalize on the resources you find in the forest. You’ll see several animals around, and you’ll never run out of trees or Sapwood.

Mushrooms spawn everywhere in the forest, and you’ll be surprised at how many kinds there are. You’ll also have unlimited berries and plants for all your cooking needs. Animals also frequent the area, and you might even come across a bear, which gives Large Animal Hides. Then again, you have no business fighting a bear early in the game so this can be a pro and con in different situations.

Where Should You Place Your Starting Plot in Pax Dei?

In the end, it really depends on what is available. You can get by the game even if you place your base at the worst possible spot. Early players will definitely have the advantage of choosing a good starting plot, but it doesn’t mean that you can’t have a decent one, too.

It all depends on where you want to be, aesthetically. Once you spend a hundred hours on the game, it feels a bit mundane to think about wherever you could’ve placed your base better. In a way, being in the center might be the best place since you will be exploring all the areas quite often.

In the first 15-20 hours, it might feel like you should’ve placed your base near the Iron Deposits since that phase of the game was extremely brutal. However, you’ll experience other problems and eventually, you’ll just overcome them one by one. All areas have their pros and cons and that’s what makes it a bit more balanced, especially considering it is a sandbox MMORPG.
