How to Get Iron Ores in Pax Dei

Time for another hour smashing rocks!

Pax Dei’s hardest wall to climb is getting from the early game to the mid-game. You’ll start seeing some Iron resource requirements like Iron Bars, Iron Ingots, and others, but you have no idea where to find them. Getting Iron Ores will be a struggle, but here’s how you can get them in Pax Dei.

Where to Find Iron Ores in Pax Dei

Iron Ore drops from mining Iron Deposits with a Pickaxe. Some Iron Deposits need better Pickaxes to mine and they are differentiated by Impure, Normal, and Pure Iron Deposits. Since the most basic Pickaxe can only mine the Impure Iron Deposits, you need to look for the Impure ones specifically. The Impure Iron Deposits spawn around the mountain areas.

Open your map and look for the grey area with a bunch of mountain drawings as seen in the image above. This map is on the Shire starting area, but you can look at other mountainous ranges from other starting areas too. If you have problems looking for Impure Iron Deposits, you should look for different spots. There is a mix of Gneiss Deposits, Granite Deposits, and Impure Iron Deposits here.

Once you see an area with multiple Impure Iron Deposits, mark it with a waypoint so you can remember where the Impure Iron Deposits spawn. These spawns are fixed so you can always come back when you need more. They also spawn in groups of two to three Impure Iron Ore Deposits. You can also farm some Gneiss Deposits to get some Sand while you are at it.

What Are Iron Ores Used For?

Iron Ores are smelted using a Furnace to create Iron Ingots. You’ll need 40 Impure Iron Ores and 80 Charcoal to create 20 Iron Ingots. That’s a lot of resources. Each craft also takes one hour, so you really need to prioritize crafting this resource unless you are willing to build two Furnaces to speed things up.

You can also exit the game and the craft will continue on the Furnace. This goes for all buildings so if you need Charcoal from the Charcoal Kiln, you should also queue the Charcoal craft.

As an additional tip, you’ll still need to level up your Blacksmithing skill after you get your first Iron Ingots. The trick is to focus on crafting anything that unlocks other recipes that need Iron Ingots. You’ll continuously unlock new recipes using other Iron recipes like Iron Rods, Iron Nails, Iron Wires, and Iron Sheets. Focus on crafting ones that are “yellow” or easy difficulty when crafting. Once the recipe goes green or “Trivial,” they barely give any Blacksmithing experience points.

After leveling your Blacksmithing skill, you should prioritize Iron tools like an Iron Pickaxe or an Iron Chopping Axe.

While waiting for your Iron Ingots to craft, you can farm some Sapwood. If you don’t have enough Sapwood, avoid crafting Planks or Wooden Pegs unless you have a lot stockpiled. The Charcoal requirements for the Iron Ingots eat up a lot of Sapwood.
