How to Get Sand in Pax Dei

Careful around the eyes!

Pax Dei has so many different resources in the game that it feels more like a deep survival-crafting game than an MMORPG. Some of these resources are usually needed in multiple recipes, but some specialize in creating a few important pieces like Sand. Sand is easy to find early, but if you overlook a few things, you might never find them. Sand is important as you progress to the mid-game and here’s where you can get them.

Where to Get Sand in Pax Dei

Sand is found in the most unlikely way. You have to mine through Gneiss Deposits around the world. Gneiss Deposits spawn in almost every starting area, and they also spawn in mountain ranges. You have more chances to find them in a random area than the mountain ranges since you might find some other deposits like Iron and Granite in the mountains.

First of all, you need to craft a Basic Carpenters Workbench and look for the Stone Pickaxe craft. You need to get the Stone Pickaxe tool to mine the Gneiss Deposits. The Stone Pickaxe tool requires 2 Long Wood Stock and 1 Gneiss. Build a Wood Chopping Block using the Construction Hammer, and you can craft the Long Wood Stock there. You’ll also use the Wood Chopping Block to craft Planks so you really need to craft it anyway.

Once you have the Stone Pickaxe, roam around your starting area, preferably the ones near the hills. Look for a big shiny rock and start smacking it with your Stone Pickaxe. It’ll drop you a ton of Gneiss, but you’ll also get some extra Sand. You can even get some rare Glass drops from doing this, but I’ve only gotten it once after mining numerous Gneiss Deposits.

What is Sand Used For?

Sand is mainly used in creating Rough Glass. You have to craft the Stone Anvil and get ingredients like Clay, Short Wood Stock, and Gneiss to unlock the Furnace. Farming Clay would be the hardest material to farm here because you need 60 of them.

The Furnace uses 50 Sand and 20 Charcoal for every 10 Rough Glass crafts. It also takes a whopping 40 minutes to finish one craft. So, if you are in dire need of Rough Glass, you might as well craft multiple Furnaces so you can double the speed.
