Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance was verified for the Steam Deck a few months ago confirming it passed Valve’s checks for the handheld. However, Steam Verification doesn’t always guarantee good performance, which can be a bit subjective. Originally released on the Nintendo Switch, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is now available on PC and consoles, but is it playable on the Steam Deck? Here’s everything we know.
Is Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Playable on the Steam Deck?
Yes, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is playable on the Steam Deck and can easily maintain 60 FPS on the regular Steam Deck, and 90 FPS on the OLED model with a few dips in some demanding areas.
While it runs great at the Deck’s native resolution, you can push the internal resolution to 1080p for higher image quality, but it’s hard to maintain 60 FPS there. Though given the turn-based nature of the title, it’s not as bad with a 40 FPS lock.
The 60 FPS experience is the one we’d go with, and the default settings do well enough to maintain that.Â
The Steam Deck verification means that it works completely with the controller and you don’t need to input anything using the touchscreen. It also means that the game comes with Steam Cloud support so progress is easily shared between different devices. It’s one of the best ATLUS experiences on the Deck and playing it handheld is still an absolute joy.
All the recent Persona releases on Steam are verified for the Steam Deck and run quite well. Persona 3 Reload was a bit demanding at launch but with a few patches, it also runs at mostly 60 FPS. We’re glad to see the extra effort ATLUS is putting into these ports to not only improve the PC experience with each release but make them Steam Deck-friendly as well. Now if only someone could convince Vanillaware to release Unicorn Overlord on PC.
