How to Find and Tame the Rock Elemental in Ark Survival Ascend: Scorched Earth

Rock Elementals can be extraordinarily difficult to find in Scorched Earth because they seamlessly blend into the terrain. And I mean seamlessly. When at rest, they’ll lie on the ground and literally become a giant rock, which you’ll likely have no idea is a Rock Golem until you start trying to mine it. And then it’ll get aggressive.

Unfortunately, taming the Rock Elemental isn’t easy, though it’s not quite as hard as taming a wyvern. To tame a Rock Elemental, you must knock it out with a blow to the head. This is difficult because of the Rock Elementa’s resistance to damage, meaning you’ll need a projectile like a cannonball to do the deed. Failing to hit the head and instead hitting anywhere else may lead to the Rock Golem dying instead.

But first, to find the Rock Elemental, head into the valley in the southern portion of the map. More precisely, latitude 70.6, longitude 48. The Rock Elemental does wander, but not significantly. Simply look for a very square rock that looks ever so slightly out of place. You can also use a magnifying glass if you aren’t sure.

Once you do find your suspected Rock Elemental, you’ll need to set up your plan of attack. The best thing you can do is to fence around it. This will stop the dozens of other dinosaurs in the area from swarming you as you do the next step, which is to set up a cannon. Personally, I suck at aiming these things, so I have three cannons ready to go. Each cannon can only have one cannonball, so be prepared to lug or craft extras.

When you’re adequately set up, wake it and then carefully aim your cannon using the interact wheel. Ideally, you would have gotten it as close to perfect beforehand. You’ll need to land several headshots to knock it out. But once the Golem is finally out, you can use extraordinary kibble or a huge amount of sulfur to tame it.
