Opening chests in Palworld allows you to obtain items to let you make better tools, buy resources at merchants, and help you progress further in your playthrough. Here’s how to get Copper Keys to unlock treasure chests.
Where to Find Copper Keys in Palworld – Location Guide
The best way to get Copper Keys in Palworld is by looting chests, capturing certain Pals, and defeating raid enemies. While wooden chests require keys to open, other treasure chests don’t need any, allowing you to open them and claim their rewards as usual. Occasionally, the items you get from these include Copper Keys, which you can use to open locked chests.
As for enemies, you’ll encounter numerous raids throughout your playthrough, ranging from hungry Pals trying to take your food to armed humans trying to take you down. The humans, in particular, often drop items such as gun ammo, money, and keys, allowing you to obtain some Copper Keys during nearly every raid against them.
You’ll also encounter Pals during raids and in the wild who drop valuable items, with ones like Leezpunk dropping copper and silver keys. An early-game Leezpunk raid was the first time I obtained copper keys, allowing me to make solid headway into unlocking chests.
Check your Paldeck for the possible drops of different Pals to see if they have items you need before exploring the world and searching for them.
As well, be careful as you fight in raids, as your Pals can pick up loot and bring it to your chests. Always check your storage for any, just in case you have some unexpectedly stored somewhere or randomly tossed them in and forgot about them.
How to Use Copper Keys and Open Locked Chests in Palworld
Once you have some Copper Keys on hand, go to any locked treasure chest on the map and interact with it to consume your key automatically, opening the chest and revealing your rewards. You’ll often receive items such as gold coins, bread, Pal Spheres, and other miscellaneous items.
However, only some chests require a Copper Key to open. In particular, if they’re gold or white in appearance, they usually don’t need any key to unlock. Although uncommon, you’ll occasionally find these scattered around, much like regular wooden chests, allowing you to get additional items without carrying any keys.
