Elden Ring features cooperative and competitive multiplayer similar to the Dark Souls series, and was simultaneously released for PC and multiple consoles. This guide will answer whether the game contains cross-platform multiplayer across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox hardware.
Is There Cross Platform in Elden Ring?
The simple answer is no, Elden Ring does not have cross-platform support. This means that PC players cannot interact with Xbox or PlayStation players, while console players can only stay within their own platform.
However, Elden Ring does contain support for cross-generation multiplayer. Players can group up with friends as long as they are playing with the same hardware family. So, Xbox One users can link up with Xbox Series X|S players, while PlayStation 4 players can play alongside PlayStation 5 users.
Past-generation players should also not fret about being left behind when upgrading to the latest console. Elden Ring allows players on both platforms to upgrade to the current generation version at no additional cost while keeping their save data intact. The game supports Smart Delivery for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S users and is a free upgrade from the PlayStation 4 to the PlayStation 5.
PC players are on an island of their own by only matching with other PC users. Elden Ring is only available on Steam for PC, so there is no issue over whether or not it would work between different gaming launchers. The game cannot be purchased from the Epic Games Store, and there have been no plans from Bandai Namco Entertainment or FromSoftware to bring the game to the PC launcher and store.
