Honkai: Star Rail has brought new endgame content for players starving for challenges every couple of months. The latest newcomer is Pure Fiction, an alternative to Memory of Chaos with similar systems and rewards but a slightly different goal which encourages using different characters.
Honkai: Star Rail Pure Fiction Mode Guide
Pure Fiction is the new permanent challenge mode where players can get rewards like Stellar Jades, Credits, Traveler’s Guide and Jade Feathers by completing various challenge stages within a determined number of cycles. Challenges are not tied to your Equilibrium Level and will always be the same during a given cycle.
You unlock this new mode by answering Mr. Xiyan’s message and visiting the Exalting Sanctum to complete Youci’s Clever Decor quest. The quest pits you against the first stage, which should be easy to complete with decently leveled teams.
You get to use two separate teams, and players get a special Whimscallity buff to help them during each cycle. Results are ranked by how many stars they got in each stage.
This is pretty much like Memory of Chaos 2.0, but similarities end here. Instead of two waves per stage section, players fight three waves with various weaker enemies with a stronger boss at the end. You get points for each enemy defeated and they’ll respawn frequently, which encourages using AoE-focused characters instead of single-target carries.
Each team can add a special buff that boosts their Whimscallity even further, and you have three different options for different teams. These buffs can make your team even more powerful and get you enough points for the long-awaited 3-stars on that difficult stage.
This is the dream mode for characters like Himeko and Herta, previously thought to be underwhelming due to not having a particular advantage on MoC or Simulated Universe. And they’re even more powerful on the latter too, now that we have access to the Path of Erudition.
Destruction characters are also quite powerful here. They tend to have Blast or straight-up AoE attacks, so they also take a huge advantage in this mode. Pure Fiction also encourages double-carry teams, so you can try out even more characters that you usually wouldn’t bother building in the first place.
Each Pure Fiction cycle lasts for 41 days, and a new cycle drops every 28 days. The idea is to cycle between completing Memory of Chaos and Pure Fiction alternatively while having more time to build new characters for each mode and enjoy all of its rewards.
All Pure Fiction Rewards Listed
Just like in Memory of Chaos, rewards for Pure Fiction vary according to the number of stars you get in each stage. There are currently four stages, but more could be added in the future. By clearing them all with no particular amount of Stars, you get the following:
- x24 Traveler’s Guide
- x12 Refined Aether
- x24 Lost Crystal
- x96 Lucent Afterglow
- x120000 Credits
If you manage to get all 12 Stars, you also get the following:
- x720 Stellar Jades
- x240000 Credits
- x600 Jade Feathers
Aside from that, clearing Stage 2 for the first time gets you a free copy of Lynx. She’s the second free healer character we get, and a very competent one, to say the least, so get her a spot in your team as soon as you can.
Getting perfect stages in this mode can be rather difficult if you don’t have many AoE-focused characters. The Erudition Path is preferred here, and free characters like Herta, Qingque, and Serval are extremely valuable here, so they’re a great starting point. 5-stars like Himeko, Argenti, and Jing Yuan really shine here, so bring them whenever you can.
The Hunt characters can be efficient, but they’re ultimately outclassed here most of the time as they lack the AoE tools for faster clears. They’re still effective on Memory of Chaos and Simulated Universe, though, so don’t worry.
Pure Fiction is permanent, so you get to put your best AoE warriors to the test every couple of days. You might even consider pulling for stronger Erudition characters in the future, as the path is now in a better position than ever.
