Are Sony and Microsoft Planning Apple-Style Reveals For Their New Systems Before E3?

An article from Game Informer indicates we could see the future sooner rather than later.

Hot off the recent news stories regarding Microsoft’s countdown to E3 and a Sony executive admitting that a PlayStation 4 could be revealed sometime soon, we’ve learned through a recent article in Game Informer Magazine that the reveals for the next generation gaming hardware could come a lot sooner than you think.  And with style, no less.

According to the feature, the magazine claims, “We hear that both Sony and Microsoft are targeting special Apple-style press conferences to unveil their platforms near the Game Developers Conference in late March.”  The GDC usually takes place in San Francisco, a place known for Apple’s most recent press conferences surrounding the new iPhone and iPad models.

This would make sense, in a way, as developers could get a jump on the software before leading into E3 and possible project reveals for the system.  But, still, Apple-style presentations?  We know these guys want to be hot shots but they shouldn’t forget that the gaming core likes their announcements right out there, and to the point.  Nintendo probably learned that with E3, after announcing the exclusive release of Bayonetta 2 months later at a press event.

We’ll see what the future holds in just a couple months’ time.
