Is Helios in God of War Ragnarok? – Answered

The Ghost of Sparta gets haunted

The God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC brings all kinds of Greek themes back into the spotlight and there is no better time to bring back Gods like Helios. In this guide, I’ll cover whether the Sun God appears once again and what it means.

Does Helios Appear in God of War Ragnarok Valhalla

The answer is yes, Helios does make an appearance in the God of War Valhalla DLC. However, he is essentially a figment of Kratos’ imagination. We get a small sequence where the Sun God and Kratos speak once again, but it’s not really happening. Of course, more spoilers are ahead if you want to know what this means for the story.

If you remember God of War 3, then you know that Kratos rips off Helios’ head and keeps it as a way to reveal objects with light. For a brief time in the maze of Valhalla, the head of Mimir that Kratos always carries around becomes Helios. You can hear his voice earlier in the DLC, but this section brings the Sun God’s head back in full.

But as Kratos later finds out in the God of War Ragnarok DLC, the head is really just Mimir, and his mind is playing tricks on him. He even almost sets Mimir on fire, thinking that Helios is yelling at him about sacrifices. In death, the God of the Sun is still causing issues for Kratos and his guilt-ridden conscience.

Helios isn’t the only callback to the Greek past of Kratos. Plenty of environments recreate key moments in the original trilogy, and some weapons appear to accompany the Blades of Chaos. You’ll have to explore it all for yourself to get the full picture.

If you haven’t been able to jump into the new Roguelite yet, make sure to start the God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC in the main menu.
