Star Wars: The Old Republic Set To Introduce Same Sex Romance Options Before Year’s End

Jedis don't have to chase just after the opposite sex.

Some folks might think it’s a bit weird to have same sex relationship options in a video game – especially one revolving around fantasy – but c’mon, guys, there are those who are just more comfortable with it.  We’re fine with that.

Now you can add another BioWare product to the list of offering that option.  The company has confirmed that it will be adding same sex romance choices to Star Wars: The Old Republic sometime this year.  The majority of choices will be available on the planet Makeb, which will be a focal point in the forthcoming Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion, slated to release sometime this spring.

Executive producer Jeff Hickman addressed the issue in a BioWare blog.  “First of all, I want to apologize that this is taking so long to get in the game,” he stated.  “I realized that we promised (same-gender romances) to you guys and that many of you believed that this would be with a companion character.  Unfortunately, this will take a lot more work than we realized at the time and it (like some other pieces of content we talked about earlier in the year) has been delayed as we focused on the changes required to take the game Free-To-Play.  As we have said in the past, allowing same gender romance is something we are very supportive of.”

We’ll have details on the upcoming expansion soon!
