How to Lower Film Grain in Starfield

Make everything look extra smooth!

Film grain is a hit or miss for many people. For some, it’s a great way to add depth to textures and give a serious vibe to a game. For others, it’s an unpleasant and distracting feature that detracts from your high-quality environment. If you’re on the side that wishes to lower or completely get rid of film grain in Starfield, we’re here to help you figure out exactly how to do it.

How to Reduce Film Grain Intensity in Starfield

To reduce film grain intensity in Starfield, head into your settings menu, select Display, and scroll down until you find Film Grain Intensity. It is set at one by default, but you can reduce it by 0.01 points until it reaches zero. Using this slider, you can determine precisely how intense you want the film grain or clear it if you prefer smooth textures.

Keeping film grain at one will result in a constant, subtle fuzz or static over your display. Turning it down to zero will eliminate this, giving you smooth textures. Reducing it is also helpful if you struggle with FPS dips, as zero film grain is less intensive on your PC or console. While this won’t make a massive difference by itself, every little bit counts!

Within the display menu, you’ll also find options to change the quality of shadows, particles, and lighting, among other aspects, to make your game as high or low-quality as your PC or Xbox can handle. You can also turn off motion blur here or change its intensity. Unfortunately, you won’t find an FOV slider anywhere, but that is a conversation for another time.
