How to Unlock and Beat Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4

Normal mode isn't enough.

One of the best ways to earn some Legendary armor and powerful Glyphs is to take on the Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4. However, unlocking them isn’t as simple as walking into one like before, and beating them also won’t be a complete walk in the park. How to Start Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4

Nightmare Dungeons can be unlocked in World Tier 3 or higher and you must loot a Nightmare Sigil. That means completing the Capstone Dungeon at the end of World Tier 2 is required before you can even think about trying these out in Diablo 4. Once you have World Tier 3 unlocked, it’s time to get started on unlocking the nightmares.

To start a Nightmare Dungeon, you must find a Nightmare Sigil. I got mine after completing a Gathering Legions world event in Scosglen. Essentially, you need to complete tougher content in World Tier 3 and hope for the Nightmare Sigil as a reward. When I unlocked mine, I was given the Maulwood Nightmare Sigil, which means the Maulwood Dungeon was the designated dungeon.

How to Unlock Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4:

  • Complete the main campaign.
  • Finish the World Tier 2 Capstone Dungeon.
  • Change your world to World Tier 3.
  • Complete World Events or Dungeons to find a Nightmare Sigil.
  • Use the Sigil and start your First Nightmare Dungeon.

You can find the sigil in your inventory, and you have to manually activate it before starting one of the Nightmare Dungeons. After the activation, you can teleport directly to the dungeon as of the latest update.

How to Beat Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4

The largest difference between standard and Nightmare Dungeons is the Affixes. These serve as modifiers that are unique to the sigil and the dungeon you are about to take on. When I got to the Maulwood Dungeon, I was given increased healing as a buff. However, I had to deal with more Poison Elites and monsters with more attack speed as well.

I also only had 12 revives, so I had to be careful when I started. At World Tier 3 in a Tier 1 Nightmare Dungeon, I didn’t end up having any deaths. Because the modifiers appear before the dungeon, make sure to bring gems and elixirs that counter the effects. For example, I used emeralds in my jewelry and armor elixirs for protection.
