Rhode Island Takes Control of 38 Studios Assets; Former Employees Form Impossible Studios

The saga of 38 Studios has finally drawn to a close, as the state of Rhode Island has gained complete control of all the company’s assets, including the rights to IPs for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (which we’ll never see a sequel to) and the MMORPG spin-off Project Copernicus.  The state will be taking control of computer equipment to keep these IP’s in place as soon as possible, in hopes of maybe even selling them to another studio.

But not all the news behind 38 Studios’ fallout is bad.  Epic Games announced today that a new studio, consisting of some of the scattered talent behind the failed developer, has opened.  Say hello to Impossible Games, a studio dedicated to worthwhile efforts for mobile and possibly console.

The first game out of the studio will be none other than the long-awaited Infinity Blade: Dungeons, featuring a great action/exploration angle that the previous games somewhat lacked.  It still doesn’t have a release date, but we expect it later this year.

Congrats to those who landed jobs over at Impossible.  We can’t wait to see what you guys can do.
