Donkey Kong 64. Love it or hate it, it could be on the way back.

Back when it came out in the late 90’s, Donkey Kong 64 got a mixed reaction when it arrived for Nintendo 64.  Part of the crowd loved the exploration factor behind the game, while others felt it strayed too far off the course for its own good.  Nevertheless, it’s considered one of the better efforts for the system…and now it could be getting a sequel.

According to a recent article, Camelot, the developer behind the Mario Tennis and Mario Golf games, could be open about making a sequel to the Rare classic.  Said the company’s president, Hiroyuki Takahashi, to Nintendo gamer, he explained that he “would love to make” a sequel to the platforming classic, stating that it was a game that was still “full of surprises” to this very day.

Seeing as how Donkey Kong still knows how to draw up an audience (check out the Wii revival Donkey Kong Country Returns if you don’t believe us), a sequel would be a good idea for the 3DS or even the Wii U.  But without official word from Nintendo, your guess is as good as ours.
