How to Change Bed Color in Minecraft Java and Bedrock

How to Change Bed Color in Minecraft Java and Bedrock

With so many colors to choose from, it's hard to pick just one!

One of the best parts of playing Minecraft is having the freedom to design your world however you’d like. If you want to make a tiny dirt house, you can! If this doesn’t sound fun, you can make a giant castle with tons of animals and iron golems guarding it instead. You can customize a lot, including the colors of your carpets, beds and other decorative blocks in the game. However, while changing wool and carpet color isn’t too challenging, doing this with beds is a different story. If you’d like to learn more, continue reading to discover how to change bed color in Minecraft Java, Bedrock and Education editions.

Regardless of which Minecraft edition you’re playing, you’ll need beds and dyes. While it doesn’t matter which dye you use, the bed color is important if you play Minecraft Java.

Changing Bed Color in Java Edition

When you first craft a bed in Minecraft Java, you’ll use three blocks of wood and wool to pick your bed color. For example, using red wool will make a red bed, while using blue creates a blue bed. If you want to change your bed color, though, you must use a white bed and dye. Trying to dye any other colored bed won’t work!

In short, if you have a colored bed, you’re stuck with that color unless you craft a new one. However, if it is a white bed, you can dye it whichever color you prefer.

Changing Bed Color in Bedrock and Education Editions

Unlike Java Edition’s limit, you can change any colored bed in Minecraft Bedrock and Education editions. If you have a purple one, you can throw it into your crafting table with some yellow dye to make the bed yellow. Have a red bed instead? You can change this into any other color you’d like too. You don’t have to make the bed white or craft another one before changing its color.

While this is the same in Minecraft Education Edition, chemistry lets you create bleach! By making bleach using water and Sodium Hypochlorite, you can use this substance with any colored bed to turn it white. You can also do this with white dye and get the same result!
