Now that The Last of Us Part 2 has been released, players are finally able to continue Joel and Ellie’s story. With its release, there are a lot of players wondering if The Last of Us Part 2 will have a DLC of any sort. After all, the original game has The Last of Us: Left Behind, which was a story expansion focused on Ellie. So, what are The Last of Us Part 2 DLC plans?
The Last of Us Part 2 DLC Plans
In a SpoilerCast with Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller, The Last of Us Part 2 director Neil Druckmann shared that, “No, there are no plans for DLC.” During the discussion (which is loaded with spoilers, obviously), Miller and Druckmann discussed how the original The Last of Us DLC was planned and announced ahead of time, but with the sequel, there are simply no plans for any type of DLC. While this is certainly disappointing to a lot of players, there is still hope that players can get some type of new The Last of Us Part 2 content, possibly in the form of a standalone Factions game. In 2019, Naughty Dog hinted that it could be making a separate Factions mode while confirming that The Last of Us Part 2 wouldn’t have a multiplayer mode like the original. “But rest assured, we are as big a fan of Factions as the rest of our community and are excited to share more when it’s ready,” said Naughty Dog. “However, you will eventually experience the fruits of our team’s online ambition.”

While this quote is incredibly vague, it does seem that Naughty Dog is working on some type of Factions release with The Last of Us Part 2, but it won’t be in the form of a DLC. During the Kinda Funny SpoilerCast, Miller asked Druckmann directly if anyone at Naughty Dog was working on a Factions standalone game. Unfortunately, Druckmann just laughed and chose not to answer the question. So, it seems like there is probably something going on behind the scenes at Naughty Dog, but we will have to wait to find out what it is. However, we do know for sure that there will be no The Last of Us Part 2 DLC.
Despite no extra content coming to the game, there is still plenty of stuff to do and new characters to meet in the sequel.
