Payday 3 is rounding the corner now, with the game set to launch in just a few short weeks on September 21. As of writing, the game is announced to be coming to the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Some have been wondering if their older generation buddies can get in on the action, too, though. Here’s whether Payday 3 will launch on Xbox One or PlayStation 4.
Will Payday 3 Come to Last-Gen Consoles?
Unfortunately, the chances of Payday 3 coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are slim to none. There are a number of reasons for this, namely that the game’s required processing power far outweighs that of the PS4 and Xbox One. If the team tried to give it a go on the previous gen, the framerate would likely drop into single digits, rendering the game mostly unplayable.

Alongside that, it’s time for games to upgrade to modern platforms anyway. Next-gen consoles were released all the way back in 2020, so developers have had plenty of time to adapt to the new platform and make use of its immensely powerful hardware. If teams were to release on both platforms constantly, it’d result in these titles needing to be scaled back to run well. It might appeal to those refusing to get the new hardware, but it’ll harm anyone up ahead.
Will Payday 3 Launch on Any Other Platform?
If Payday 3 does end up debuting on other platforms, it will likely be through cloud integration over anything else. Platforms like the Nintendo Switch are no strangers to this technology, and developers have proven it can work effectively, so who knows? With no official word from Starbreeze, though, we’ll need to wait to see if that angle gets explored.
