Here’s a short guide to finding these Scrap Metal early in Outbound and getting your van settled more quickly.

How to Get More Scrap Metal in Outbound

There are several ways to get Scrap Metal, and if you have played for about an hour or two already, you probably have gotten some in one of the supply crates in some of the early campfire locations. However, the best way to get Scrap Metal is to just pick it up off the ground.

They don’t spawn just anywhere, so it might be hard for some to find them early if you don’t know where to look. First, you can find Scrap Metal from supply crates when exploring camp sites, but these aren’t guaranteed – just to get this method out of the way.

Next, Scrap Metals are received when you pick up Metal Scraps that are usually scattered around Signal Towers.

Open the map, look for the Signal Tower icons, and go to them. Not every Signal Tower is accessible early, so go to the marked towers, as shown in the image above, to get some Scrap Metals early.

If you gain access to the next areas by repairing the bridges, you’ll still find other Signal Towers and also find other Scrap Metals lying on the ground. Each Metal Scrap you pick up should give you three Scrap Metals, and you should easily find three or more for each Signal Tower. It is also worth noting that there are other spots with Metal Scraps, such as landmark areas and some very select camp sites.

What Are Scrap Metals Used For in Outbound?

Scrap Metals are used to craft several important workstations early, which should also be part of your main objectives when progressing in the game. Early workstations like the Sawmill or Recyclers require Scrap Metal, and if you can’t find any early, you’ll literally get stuck in progressing, since you need these workstations to progress – like the Sawmill to craft Everwood Planks and repair the bridge to the next area.

Another important use for Scrap Metal is that it is used for crafting tools like a Wrench. There are several unlockable tools as well, mostly unlocked through the terminals using Download Vouchers.

Eventually, you’ll gain access to more workstations and also need more Scrap Metals to make some of them. The same goes for some furniture and decorations, so you’ll really want to have some Scrap Metals in your storage lying around at all times.
