Time for better tools!
Light Hides unlock important recipes in Hytale. It gives you better tools, a bed spawn point, and access to even more recipes when processed into Leather.
These Light Hides can be hard to find early in the playthrough, and it’ll be a lot easier to find when you know where to go. Here’s a quick guide on where to get Light Hides in Hytale.
How to Get Light Hides in Hytale

Light Hides drop from rats, deer, sheep, chickens, pigs, and other small animals, which are quite common. That said, you can get unlucky and struggle to find them, so always keep an eye out.
The best way to find Light Hides is to keep a bow in hand, just in case you find a deer, since they run immediately when hit. You can also go into caves to find rats in bunches, and you can also farm things like Copper and Iron at the same time.

When you get the Light Hides, you can start making your Crude Bedroll so you can set your respawn point. Use the others to upgrade your tools and maybe even make a Repair Kit.
As for the rest, you’ll then process these Light Hides in the Tannery to produce Light Leather. Light Leather offers a wide range of useful tools, equipment, and even workbenches. Some of the key things you’ll unlock with Light Leather are the ability to repair tools by crafting the Repair Kit, the next level of tools, and a lot more.
You’ll want a lot of these Light Hides, but the good thing is that they are very available in the world. It is also worth mentioning that bears or black wolves don’t give Light Hides, so you can skip those for now. They’ll eventually become useful the further you progress.
