If you want to progress in Mirthwood, you are going to need Iron. Iron is necessary for a wide range of recipes, some of the most important of which are upgraded Iron tools. Crafting Iron tools requires a huge amount of ore. Unfortunately, Iron is not the most abundant resource in the game. If you’ve been searching for Iron but don’t know where to find it, we’ve got you covered in this Mirthwood guide.
Where to Find Iron in Mirthwood
The best place to mine Iron in Mirthwood is Murkwater Marsh. Murkwater Marsh is in the bottom left corner of the map, below Brightoak and above the Bleakwood Forest. There is also a decent amount of Iron at the very bottom of the Irondelve Mine, which you can find nestled in the Glasstip Foothills in the top left portion of the map.
Iron can be mined with a Copper Pickaxe, so there is no need to worry about upgrading your tools before you start hunting!
Each Iron tool requires ten Iron Bars, and one Iron Bar requires five pieces of raw Iron. And that’s just for the tools, not to mention all of the other recipes and quests that require Iron or Iron Bars. Keeping up with all your Iron requirements can be difficult, so seeking out the areas with the highest amount of this rare resource is essential.
While there is indeed Iron to be mined in the Irondelve Mine, there is far more up for grabs in the Murkwater Marsh. Iron veins are scattered all around the Marsh, particularly around the Campsite. You can identify Iron veins by searching for the large, grey rocks with light blue flecks permeating the surface.
There are quite a few Iron veins around the perimeter of the Campsite in the Marsh in particular. Once you’ve visited the Camp in Murkwood Marsh and activated the fast travel point, you can travel there in the blink of an eye from any other fast travel point to quickly bag yourself a decent handful of Iron. The Iron veins and other resources in Mirthwood respawn every so often, so don’t forget to sweep the Marsh regularly to collect more.
How to Turn Iron Into Iron Bars in Mirthwood
Raw Iron Ore is not a material you will commonly need in Mirthwood. Most of the time, your recipe will call for Iron Bars. To make Iron Bars, you will need to craft yourself a Furnace. You can do this from the Workbench on your farm.
Interact with the Workbench and head to the first tab. You will need 40 Stone to craft the Furnace. If you’ve got those materials in your pack, press Craft and open your quickwheel to select the Furnace. If it’s not there, you can find it in your inventory by opening up the menu and taking the long route.
Hover your Furnace over the area you would like to place it. If the area is clear and you’re good to go, the Furnace will be green, and you will be free to place it. If not, it will be red. Check the area to make sure there is nothing in the way and clear it before placing your Furnace.
From there, you simply need to interact with the Furnace and select Iron Bars. As long as you’ve got the necessary materials, you will be able to confirm your choice, and the Furnace will start smelting. You can only craft two Bars at a time, so consider creating a whole army of Furnaces if you need lots of Bars quickly!
