Where to Find Dondons in Tears of the Kingdom (TOTK)

Donphan got a crossover episode

Dondons might be one of the most adorable additions to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but they’re exceptionally rare. If you’re trying to track them down (and want to know about what type of gems you can get from them), here’s where to find Dondons in Tears of the Kingdom (TotK).

Where to Find Dondons in Tears of the Kingdom (TOTK)

If you’ve spoken to pretty much anyone in Hyrule, you’ll learn that Zelda’s been one busy princess. Or queen? Isn’t she a queen now that her dad is dead? Anyway, she’s done everything from perfecting goat recipes to tracking down newly discovered species. And that includes the prehistoric-looking Dondon.

These creatures can be seen across the chasm from Lakeside Stable, and at the precise coordinates 1562, -3354, 0059. To get there, all you need to do is glide from the stable and land on the small outcropping of land just beneath the Dondon pen. The mountain wall might seem high, but even without a stamina boost, you should be able to make it just fine. But the climbing gear really makes it easier.

Once you’re in the Dondon pen, you’re free to wander as you like. But what makes these docile creatures so useful is the fact that they defecate gems. Yeah, I’m not joking. Feed them a Luminous Stone, leave, and fifteen to twenty minutes later you should find gemstones on the ground. These gems include Amber, Topaz, Sapphire, Ruby, and Opal. Diamonds, unfortunately, don’t seem to be in the drop pool. Or perhaps they’re so rare we just haven’t encountered them yet.

Finding Luminous Stones is where the real challenge lies. These stones are most commonly found on Sky Islands, but finding an ore deposit can be challenging.

Fortunately, we have a guide on one of the best Luminous Gem spots in the game. Check out how to find it here: How to Find Luminous Stones in Tears of the Kingdom (TotK).
