No surrender!

War Weariness is one of the earliest terms you’ll encounter in Civilization 7. When you are at war with another leader, War Weariness shows up, but what does it entail? Do you get any penalties? How do you fix it? Here’s what War Weariness means in Civilization 7.

What Does War Weariness Mean in Civilization 7?

War Weariness represents a Civilization’s willingness to continue the ongoing war. It heavily affects your population as it is up to them to continue the war. If it falls, your people’s support wavers, and it can lead to societal stagnation.

Indirectly, it also leads to a massive reduction in overall Happiness, which can lead to revolts. In times of war, having a surplus of Happiness is almost mandatory unless you know you can end the war quickly.

War Weariness is also calculated during war actions. The game tracks how much support each civilization has for continuing a conflict. If your War Support is lower than your enemy’s, you start to rack up War Weariness.

Your cities suffer increasingly negative effects for each “point” you accrue. These typically include:

  • Reduced Happiness (or Amenities) in your core/founded cities.
  • There are even greater penalties in conquered cities since they’re more prone to revolts.
  • Combat Strength reduction by 1 (can go up to 20.)

The penalties can stack if you’re at war with multiple civilizations or your War Support difference grows larger. This makes it progressively harder to keep your empire running smoothly.

How To Remove War Weariness in Civilization 7

The only way to reduce War Weariness is to end wars. If you are at war with multiple nations, it is in your best interest to at least end one of them. If you are at war with nations with alliances, you don’t have a choice but to end the war quickly.

You can either act fast and try to conquer a few settlements until the opposing nation offers to end the war themselves or offer an end to the war by interacting with the leaders by tapping on their icons and consulting them. If they have the upper hand, you’ll have to surrender assets or even settlements to end the war.

At the same time, this does not guarantee that they will not start a war again after the peace treaty expires. Always take note of your War Weariness
