Dragon’s Dogma 2 Unmoored World Explained

As you wind up your Dragon’s Dogma 2 playthrough, you might wonder if that is all there is. If that ending was worth the perilous journey to get there? Fortunately, there’s far more to Dragon’s Dogma 2 than the standard ending. The story continues to the conclusion of the true ending in the Unmoored World.

How to Access the Unmoored World

To access the Unmoored World in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you must flag the true ending route in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Even though the requirement may be something one may not have thought of, the process is simple. You will have to get to the end of the game and be making your way to the final boss. Naturally, the following are spoilers for the game itself, but when you’re on the back of the dragon, climb down to its chest and cling to its heart, then use the Godsbane on yourself to trigger the true end route.

What is the Unmoored World

The Unmoored World is created as the Arisen refuses to play the designated set role in the never-ending cycle. Dragon creates Arisen, Arisen succeeds and becomes Seneschal or fails and becomes a dragon to find a new Arisen. The Unmoored World is the result of the Arisen directly defying their destiny, which ends in the apocalyptic nightmare you see before you.

The world is very different; the sky is blood red, with similarly colored fog consistently enveloping more and more of it. There are a host of new enemies, with new enemies roaming the world alongside more enhanced versions of those that existed in the world prior. The map is drastically altered, and the sea has receded, meaning you must find new ways to get to certain locations. It’s clear that these are the end of days, and soon the world will come to an end.

Unless you can change it.

How to Save the Unmoored World

To restore peace to the Unmoored World, you will need to be strong, adept at working your way around the map, and have good time management skills. You must defeat five Purgeners (strong bosses) which are dictated by the beams of light that go up to the sky. You can find them at the following locations.

  • Bakbattahl
  • Vernworth
  • Sacred Arbor
  • Volcanic Island Camp
  • Excavation Site

It’s a good idea to make sure that you have set portcrystals in these locations so that you can quickly make your way there without wasting limited time and resources. You are unable to save at will. If you die, you will restart from the beginning, or when you last slept. It’s a perilous journey.

You must also lead the people of the world to safety, and you achieve this by completing the below quests which are specific to the true ending route.

  • Dreams Apart
  • Halls of the First Dawn
  • The Regentkin’s Resolve
  • A Scholarly Pursuit
  • Civil Unrest
  • The Importance of Aiding Ernesto
  • Shepherd of the Pawns

It’s hard, but it’s worth completing the Unmoored World and seeing the true ending. There’s a lot of speculation as to what it means for the story of Dragon’s Dogma, and also a potential Dragon’s Dogma 3 in the future. The cycle has been permanently broken. The brine is no more, as seen during the final scene. The people no longer have to suffer the cycle of Arisen and dragon. They are truly free.
