What is the Best Beginner Class in Baldur’s Gate 3? – Answered

Choosing the right class to start your cRPG adventure

Playing cRPG games is very similar to playing the classic tabletop Dungeons & Dragons, and the new Baldur’s Gate 3 is no exception – it faithfully adheres to the rules of the fifth edition of D&D. So, when starting a new game, if instead of choosing one of the seven premade Origin characters you decide to create your own character, the most crucial decision will undoubtedly be the class.

The class you choose will define your character’s combat style and the unique actions your character will be able to perform, as well as several discussions throughout the game that will affect the story’s progression. With 12 extremely different classes in the game complete with their multiple sub-classes, this choice will definitely not be easy for new players, so let’s make it a little easier for you and find out which class in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the best suited for newcomers.

Which Class is the Best for Beginners in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Of all the 12 classes in the game, Fighter seems to be the most suitable for complete beginners. This class is very convenient for simple and easy-to-understand melee combat and can also equip almost any armor, which represents a good balance between attack and defense. The main proficiencies of the Fighter class are Strength and Constitution, and characters that take this class can use Simple or Martial Weapons, carry Shields, and equip Light, Medium, or Heavy Armor.

The Fighter class comes with three sub-classes, so you can choose to be Battle Master and focus on strength and strategy, Eldritch Knight to have some spells available for additional tactics, or select Champion to have the best pure damage-dealing and most straightforward play style.

Well, as you can already conclude, my choice of the best class for beginners in Baldur’s Gate 3 is definitely the Fighter with the Champion subclass. Just put everything in strength, grab a big weapon, and hit the opponents – let other party members deal with spells, healing, tactics, and such.

The only downside of this approach is that the Fighter class is only good in combat, in all other aspects of the game you will find this class lacking – but that’s the beauty of cRPG games, in the next playthrough you will choose a different class and have a completely different experience. Have fun!
