What is the Best Assault Rifle in COD MW2 Season 2?

Use the right tool for the job.

Another season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 means changes to many of the weapons in the game and new additions for players to try out. There was even a new assault rifle added to the list in Season 2, so it can be hard to tell which one is the best at this point in the game.

With Ranked Play implemented in MW2 as well, you are likely to hear that certain weapons are considered “meta” picks, but it really all depends on the game mode that you are playing. In this guide, we will cover which assault rifles are the best and why you may see pros and ranked players using alternatives.

COD MW2 Season 2 – What is the Best Assault Rifle?

Despite so many changes happening in Season 2, the best Assault Rifle in MW2 is still the Kastov-74u. If you are playing Call of Duty in a casual setting, this is the best AR you can utilize, if not the best weapon overall. It has the speed of an SMG and the power of the TAQ-56. No other AR can compare, aside from the M4.

You may be wondering why you are seeing so many players using the TAQ-56 in casuals, Ranked Play matches, or even the Call of Duty League. Simply put, the Kastov-74u, the M4, and the STB 556 are all banned from use in Ranked Play and the Call of Duty League.

In the latest round of weapon changes for Modern Warfare 2 Season 2, most of these weapons remained untouched. So, while you may see tons of players, running the new ISO and the TAQ-56, they still are not the best. Build a solid Kastov-74u in casual matches to burn through your opponents and expect plenty of salt in the process.
