What is Fortnite?

Fortnite is a cooperative sandbox survival game developed by Epic Games and People Can Fly. Originally released in July of 2017, Fortnite quickly rose through the ranks thanks to its two primary game modes, Save the World and Battle Royale.

What is Save The World?

Save the World is a PVE based survival game mode that pits players against a zombie-like invasion of ‘storm creatures’. Players undergo various missions, build up their base, and team up with friends to take on endless waves of enemies. This is the paid portion of the game and was originally the game’s main focus.

What is Battle Royale?

Fashioned after previous battle royale games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Fortnite Battle Royale takes the fun, arcade action of Save the World and transfers it to a PVP-driven environment. Players face off against 99 other players in massive 100-player battles to see who the best player is in a battle to be the last man standing. It’s an intense game mode that rewards player’s skill and mastery of the game’s mechanics, and it has quickly become one of the largest battle royale games available.

In Battle Royale players can team up in groups of Duos, Squads, or even take on special time-limited events like 50vs50. These allow players to team up with their friends and face off against the world in an attempt to prove their skill. Available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, Fortnite Battle Royale has one of the longest reaches out of any battle royale game available. It’s also available to play completely free of charge—though players can spend real money to unlock in-game cosmetic items.

Unlike other battle royale games, Fortnite approaches things from a more arcade-like angle, allowing players to build traps, walls, and stairs to create their own buildings and cover. This gives players a new way to battle, giving them plenty of different options to make use of the environment around them by creating their own walkways, distractions, and more.
