Dragon's Dogma 2 Moniker Meaning Featured

What Does Moniker Mean in Dragon’s Dogma 2 Character Creator? – Answered

All names have a meaning behind them

When first creating your character in Dragon’s Dogma 2, be it in the full game or its free Character Creation demo, you’ll eventually come across the Moniker. This option appears when finalizing your character, demanding you to pick a name different from what you’ve already chosen previously.

What Does the Moniker Option Do in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

A Moniker is simply a nickname given to a person, and it works similarly in Dragon’s Dogma 2. While your Arisen character and your Pawn can have unique, exclusive names given by yourself, they will also have a Moniker attributed to them which will be picked from a pre-existing list. Both names can be displayed when adventuring through the campaign.

However, the reason Monikers were added in the first place is the parental control options featured on consoles. Like the first game, you can recruit Pawns from other players to your team, which can be freely customized and named. On the occasion players have named their Pawns with obscene words (which would normally be censored due to the console’s restrictions), the chosen Moniker will be displayed instead.

Despite the game being rated M, it would be completely oblivious from Capcom to truly believe that kids wouldn’t be playing their game. With the small inclusion of Monikers, this issue is slightly alleviated. There’s also the whole graphical violence, mature themes, and such, but these simply can’t be helped. Alas, actual parental intervention would be the real solution here.

But in practical terms, the Moniker ends up as being a simple nickname that can add a small lore flavor to your character. Of course, you’re not forced to pick a Moniker that has anything to do with your Pawn’s actual name. You can name your Pawn Kevin and pick a random word such as Facada as Moniker, for example, and nothing would stop you as ridiculous as the combination could be.

But anyway, that’s the “mystery” behind Monikers. Pick a Moniker that you like, or that has something to do with your Pawn’s backstory (if you come up with one, of course). Most players will still primarily look at their name regardless of that, especially if it’s a Pawn they got from a friend.
