What Difficulty Should You Choose in Remnant 2? – Answered

You should yell at your screen, but not too much.

Remnant 2 throws a lot of different ideas at you at once. That surprisingly complex character creator for one, with six different voices for a Male or Female character. Thankfully, they don’t throw your Archetype choice at you until you’ve gone into a few fights, but it can be quite daunting. One of those choices involves how difficult the game will be when you first begin. Thankfully, I’m here to help. Here’s what difficulty you should choose in Remnant 2.

All Difficulties in Remnant 2

When you first begin, there are three difficulties you can choose from: Survival, Veteran, and Nightmare. There’s a fourth Apocalypse difficulty. However, this one isn’t able to be chosen until you’ve completed the game already. The Survival difficulty is designed to be the easiest one, while still providing a decent amount of challenge. Veteran is the intended experience from the devs, offering some fair challenge while not being too frustrating. Nightmare, on the other hand, will provide a real challenge for those who are up to the task. By the time you can unlock Apocalypse difficulty, you’ll know whether you want to choose it for a campaign reroll or not.

What Difficulty is Best for You?

Your difficulty choice is going to come down to how experienced you are with the soulslike genre. If this is your first experience, then you should begin with Survival and figure things out from there. That may seem like the cheap way and like you’ll breeze through the game, but you’d be surprised at how much of a difficulty curve the soulslike genre is. If you have a bit of experience but not too much, then Veteran is likely more your speed. If you played the first Remnant extensively though, or have played a lot of soulslikes now, then Nightmare should be your desired path.

As for Apocalypse, you should only go into it when you have some gear and experience under your belt. It’s designed to completely mess you up, so you’ll find yourself struggling if underprepared. Be sure to purchase some extra consumables while you’re at it, you’ll need them.
