What Are Medallions in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1?

Find out why you should get these as soon as possible.

If you’ve come across someone on the battlefield who just won’t go down in Fortnite’s newest Season, there’s a good chance that they’re holding a few Medallions. Why are these items so powerful, and how do you get your hands on them?

What Are Medallions in Fortnite?

Medallions are items dropped by special NPCs that grant you an immediate boost: recharging shields and health. Let’s say you finally take down Peter Griffin and see a gold item floating next to him. If you pick this up, you’ll notice that you’ll slowly start recharging your shields and health, giving you an almost immediate advantage against your opponents.

The more medallions you pick up, the more shield and health you can recover. But, as a payoff, your location will be shown on the map, making it easier for enemies to find you and take you down. If you’ve got many medallions in your possession, since they don’t take up any inventory space, the smaller your radius on the map is. If you gather up all five of them, for example, players will find you easily, compared to a large circle if you’ve got one medallion.

Did They Nerf the Medallions in Fortnite?

As of the time of this writing, it appears that Epic Games has changed how the Medallions work. Before, they would recharge to at least 100 and go beyond that when you had more than one Medallion in your possession. However, it seems that they have fundamentally been changed, with the new Shield Regeneration amounts listed below:

  • 1 Medallion – 50 Max Shield Regeneration
  • 2 Medallions – 60 Max Shield Regeneration
  • 3 Medallions – 70 Max Shield Regeneration
  • 4 Medallions – 85 Max Shield Regeneration

Are they still worth getting? Slightly, but they have been nerfed pretty hard from their original versions, so it may be contextual at this point. If you must ensure that you’ve always got some shield on you, they’re still worth picking up. However, they’re nowhere near as powerful as they once were, so exercise caution when trying to pick some up while you’re playing.

Where Can You Find Medallions in Fortnite?

As you explore the map, you’ll start uncovering different parts containing these special bases. If you’re hoping to find these particular locations, check the following locations to find these NPC’s and their medallions:

  • Peter Griffin: Snooty Steppes.
  • Nisha: Fencing Fields.
  • Valeria: Reckless Railways.
  • Montague: Grand Glacier.
  • Oscar: Lavish Lair.
