There are several steps players must take in Risk of Rain Returns before they can unlock the secret survivor, Robomando. In this guide, I’ll explain exactly what needs to be done to add Robomando to your arsenal.
Risk of Rain Returns: How to Unlock Robomando
To unlock Robomando in Risk of Rain Returns, players must complete a number of tasks first. Players must do two separate runs, teleport between levels at a precise time, and find secret locations.
Search for and find the Strange Battery, store the battery in another location in an equipment box/chest, and change between difficulties. Below is a detailed rundown of how to unlock Robomando.
Step 1: Start a Run on Drizzle Mode in Risk of Rain Returns
The first step is to start a run on the lowest difficulty, Drizzle Mode, with one of the characters in Risk of Rain.
A big plus for players trying to unlock Robomando is to equip the Artifact of Command. Players will need to collect plenty of items and Hopoo Feathers to get into certain areas of the game if they want to complete the task of unlocking the Robomando survivor.
To ensure a smooth run, it’s advised to use a character with quick movement and good agility, such as Loader or Pilot. However, it can be done with any character in the game.
Step 2: Find the Fifth Stage (Temple of Elders)
Once you’ve started the opening run in Drizzle Mode, the objective is to reach the Fifth Stage and Temple of Elders. Once you’ve reached the Fifth Stage, players must search for and find a hidden pot/container.
These containers are predominantly hidden on the far left or far right of the stage. Find the pot, interact with it, and take the Strange Battery.
Step 3: Enter The Final Stage
Now that you’ve found the battery, the next step is to enter the Final Stage of Risk of Rain Returns. Here, you will need to find a keycard inside the ship so that you can get to the outside of it. You can find a key card in one of the gold containers or by defeating enemies, who will drop a keycard.
Use the ladder to get to the bottom floor of the ship and then use the keycard to get into the cabin area. Now walk towards the right-hand side of the ship. You’ll notice an opening that will take you outside.
Walk outside, drop down the side, and enter the secret area where there are three golems dancing with a boombox. Walk past the raving golems and jump towards the small hole in the wall.
Walk through the secret passageway and make your way to the other side. In this area, you’ll find a chest. Store the Strange Battery inside the chest. All that’s left is to end the run however you choose to, whether by dying or finishing the run, and prep for the next step. If you choose the latter, you must beat Providence.
Step 4: Start Another Run on Rainstorm or Monsoon Difficulty.
After storing the battery in the chest, you must start a new run on Rainstorm or Monsoon difficulty. This is an important step in unlocking Robomando.
Before you start the run on a higher difficulty, change the damage settings. Go to Game Rules and change the damage to lighter damage. This will make the run a bit easier for you to handle.
Step 5: Reach Stage 2 and Find the Strange Battery Again
In the next step, players must get through stage one as fast as possible and make it to the second stage. When reaching the second stage, you must search for the chest with the battery stored in it. Once you’re able to find the chest, purchase it and reclaim the battery.
After you’ve retrieved the item needed to unlock Robomando, you must clear the rest of the stage and the next stage as quickly as you can. We’re getting close to the end.
Step 6: Reach Stage 3 & Wait it Out
When you reach Stage 3 on the higher difficulty run in Risk of Rain, you must take the battery to the teleporter. When completed, players must wait for the exact moment of 22 minutes.
After waiting 22 minutes for the teleporter to charge, teleport to the next stage, the Fourth Stage. Keep in mind that you’ll only have one minute (between 22 minutes and 23 minutes) before you miss your chance to teleport to the next stage.
Step 7: Find Rabomando & Reboot Him
The final step is to find Robomando, reboot him, and let him defeat you. Robomando can be found somewhere on the stage, in one of the secret areas. Depending on the stage variant, it will determine where Robomando will be found.
The most important thing you must look out for when searching for Robomando on Stage 4 is to look for a green arrow pointing down, indicating his location. In the area above, where you find Robomando, there is a secret passageway you must search for and use to enter.
Once you’ve made it to the secret area, walk over to the green arrow and begin to reboot Robomando. All that’s left to do now is wait until he is done rebooting and then lose to him to end the run. Once you have been defeated, Robomando will be unlocked.
