Tyranny – Assault on the Citadel

Assault the Citadel with your chosen faction and bring the Vendrien Guard back under the rule of the Overlord, Kyros.
This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

Following the events of your previous quests in Tyranny, you find yourself face to face with the Archons once more. No matter who you sided with in your last conversation with the Archons, the assault on the citadel plays out the same for the most part. However, due to the length of the game, and the complexity of the story, our walkthrough from here on out will focus solely on the Disfavored storyline. In this article we’ll show you how to assault the citadel and claim its spire for Kyros.

Speak with Iron Marshal

Your first task is to find and speak with the Iron Marshal. She can be found standing on the wooden platform in the middle of the Disfavored camp. Speak with her, and carefully choose your responses. Depending on the choices you made inside the Archon’s tent, the Disfavored may be slightly ill with you. When it is all said and done, however, you should choose to join the Disfavored in battle. Before you move on, though, be sure to sell off any unused items you might have picked up along the way. You’ll also want to buy any potions and healing items, as well as Camping Supplies. You’re going to need these items if you wish to survive the next portion of the quest.

Meet the Disfavored at the Citadel

Head to the World Map and locate the Citadel. Travel there and then look for the Iron Marshal in the fray of battle. After you’ve spoken to the Iron Marshal, you’ll need to help clear out a group of enemies along the eastern side of the battlegrounds. Head to the right and take out any enemies who get in your way.

While speaking with the Iron Marshal you will have learned that there are powerful magicians keeping the Disfavored Earth Shakers from breaking through the wall. Because of this you and your party will need to sneak in and clear out the magicians so that the Earthshakers can break through. This is easy enough to accomplish.

After taking out the enemies on the right-hand side of the battle, approach the wall and look for a skill check emblem. This will require you to have at least 33 Athletics. You should be able to hit this skill check, especially if you still have Barik in your party, which should be the case if you sided with the Disfavored. Climb up the wall, and then continue around to the right, following the top of the battlements and taking out any enemies who get in your way.

Continue pressing into the citadel courtyard until you spot the stairs leading down into the center of the area. This is where the Disfavored want to enter, and it is also where you will find two mages holding back the magic of the Earth Shakers. Dispatch of these enemies and then a cutscene will trigger, and the Earthshakers will break through the wall, allowing the other Disfavored to push into the Citadel courtyard.

Move to the left, following the Iron Marshal and her troops. This way leads to the main courtyard, the next objective in your Journal. There aren’t any additional enemies in this part of the Citadel, so continue through using the step icon to enter the main courtyard. Upon your arrival several Scarlet Chorus (or Disfavored if you sided with the Chorus) will enter. The Disfavored will agree to hold them off while you and your party members enter the Citadel to claim it for Kyros.

Get to Ascension Hall

Once inside the keep, your journey ahead is fairly straightforward. Take out the first group of enemies in front of you, then continue through the keep. Make sure to explore each room and grab any loot you find, as it will help to pack your bank so you can afford upgrades and new items later on in the story. You’ll also want to save often, in case the battle doesn’t quite go your way at some point.

Follow the only path available, taking out any enemies who get in your way, until you reach Ascension Hall. The leaders of the Oathbreakers can be found here, and you’ll need to take care of them if you wish to bring Kyros’ Edict to an end. You can easily clear the battle of an additional enemy by choosing the Bluff conversation option, which will only be available if one of your party members has a Lore of 41 or higher. This will cause one of the mages to run out, afraid for their life.

While the battles at Echocall Crossing might have been challenging, this is by far the most difficult fight you’ve encountered up to this point. Make sure to focus your attacks on the ranged enemies first. In fact, we’d suggest taking out the archers and mages as quickly as possible. This will make it easier for your melee characters to gang up on the others, and clear them out. Once you have cleared out the enemies, the Disfavored will arrive, singing your praises. You can either claim the spire for yourself, or for Kyros.

For the purpose of this walkthrough, we chose to claim it for Kyros. After the final conversation you’ll be spirited away to the top of the spire, where you’ll learn more about the game’s storyline.
