Beginner Tips and Tricks for Endless Legends 2 – Beginner’s Guide

More text to read!

Strategy games are always tricky to learn, especially for those new to the 4x genre. Endless Legends 2 is one of the best I’ve played, but it can be overwhelming even for experienced players. So, here’s a quick-and-easy beginner’s guide to help you get better in Endless Legends 2.

Merge and Split Your Armies Strategically

When you start amassing your military power, you’re going to have a lot of units to manage. They are naturally split up, thanks to their turn cost – unless you use dust to speed up recruitment.

Spreading your units out can be a good idea, since you can cover more ground, but when faced with multiple enemies, you may lose a few units before the bulk of your army can get there to help out.

This is the main reason to merge your armies – to get them all into the fight and minimize your losses. But this leaves gaps in your defense and limits your mobility, so it’s a give-and-take. The real trick is to find a balance.

I recommend splitting your army up into three to four regiments and keeping them handy in strategic locations, so that when the fighting does start, you can minimize losses without sacrificing too much coverage.

Focus on Two or Three Aspects to Specialize In

When you start managing a small city, it is best to focus on one or two key aspects initially. You can focus on Food, Industry, Dust, Science, or Influence.

Food increases your population if you have a surplus. However, if you don’t want to focus on Food, you still have to keep it at a bare minimum to avoid starvation.

Industry helps you build structures and units, but any excess will disappear in the next turn. Focusing on Industry expands your city faster, but only when used efficiently.

Dust is basically the currency in the game. Focusing on Dust forces you to become an economic powerhouse, relying on buying strategic resources, keeping your upkeep high to maintain a bigger army, instantly finishing structures, and instantly training units when in trouble.

Science speeds up your technology research, gaining access to crucial upgrades quickly. Being a more advanced civilization always has its perks.

Influence is the key “resource” to expanding your territory. You can buy additional tiles using Foundations. Technically, the more you expand, the more resources you get access to. You also use Influence in Diplomacy actions.

It is hard to specialize in all of these aspects, so it is good to choose two or three and revolve your decisions around your strengths. If you focus on Influence, rapidly expand your territory so you can get more of the other resources. If you focus on Influence and Dust, you can use the Dust to quickly construct useful structures for more resources to expand even faster.

To specialize in these aspects, you just have to build structures that provide you with more of those resources. There are also other mechanics, like getting more Scribes in your population to get more Science.

Expand Your Empire With Multiple Cities Instead of One Big City

When you start managing your city, you can only produce one thing at a time. With a larger city, producing things like units and structures becomes quicker, but it is still one at a time. You want multiple cities to produce more things simultaneously. It is good to be at the maximum city cap limit all the time.

Just don’t overextend your territory because you might get attacked if your army can’t keep up.

Converting Industry to Other Resources

When you have a surplus of Industry, you can always convert it to other resources, but it does cost some production slots, making you waste turns that could’ve produced something else. You want to keep a balance, but if you have extra, always keep this tip in mind.

In a perfect scenario, you don’t want to have excess Industry, so you never have to worry about the excess disappearing.

Customize Your Heroes Consistently

If you’ve played games like Sid Meier’s Civilization series, the heroes feature will be new for you. Endless Legends 2 has heroes you can control as military units, but they also do a lot more, such as establishing other cities.

Apart from being a strong unit, they also have a skill tree and equippable gear, like in your typical RPG. Heroes are extremely strong, especially when with the right army. Keep equipping them with the best gear and utilize their skills or passives as much as possible.

Use Defend When You Can’t Reach the Enemy on Your Turn

When in battles, there are scenarios where a unit you control cannot hit anyone because they are too far away. If you move closer, you’ll get hit first when it’s their turn. The trick is to always move away if you cannot hit anyone.

If you move a little farther away, they’ll move closer to you, but hopefully won’t get an attack in. Either way, you want to be passive if the armies are quite equal in terms of power. Use the defend command whenever you are trying to bait them to come to you.
