Leveling Digimon is long and tedious, but crucial to unlock those Digivolutions in Digimon Story: Time Stranger. Leveling is straightforward if your goal is to just get stronger.
If you want Ultimate or Mega+ Digimon, it is a different ball game. You want to level up Digimon fast, and here’s the best way to do it in Digimon Story: Stranger.
The Best Strategy to Level Digimon in Digimon Story Time Stranger
How Gaining Experience Works

Before discussing the best strategy, it’s essential to understand how gaining experience works first. In your Digimon setup, you’ll see Battle Members, Reserve Members, Guest Members, and “In Box” Digimon.
Each Digimon in every category or storage gains experience points for every battle won. However, it isn’t equal. Digimon in the battle setup, including reserved and guest members, gain the most experience points.
You don’t really have control over the Guest Members, as these are the story-based Digimon that join you in battle, so you want to put the Digimon you want to level in the Battle and Reserve Members slots.
While everyone still gets experience points, how much XP do the Digimon in the box or storage get? If you gain a total of 1,000 XP in battle, every battle and reserve members gain 1,000 XP each. Every Digimon in the box only gets 66.66% or 666 XP based on this example.
Now, this is one way of getting experience points. If you want to target a Digimon or two for some quick experience points, there’s also Load Enhancements, Agent Skill buffs, and more.
With the basics in place, it’s time to introduce a little complexity.
Agent Skills Buffs (Bonds of Loyalty)

The Bonds of Loyalty category handles all the Cross Arts for your agent and EXP gains and general stat bonuses for Digimon.
The biggest EXP boost you can get is through the education nodes. Each node is classified into an evolutionary stage of a Digimon. For example, Rookie Education boosts EXP gain for Rookie Digimon while Mature Education boosts EXP gain for Champion Digimon.
In short, you want to get all Education nodes to maximize leveling in the game since In-Training and Rookies still matter in the mid or late game. You want to prioritize these nodes:
- In-Training Education
- Rookie Education
- Mature Education
- Complete Education
- Lesson in Rearing (boost EXP of battle and reserve Digimon)
Once you have these nodes, you’ll be fully maximizing your Agent Skills for leveling Digimon, and you can use the rest of your skills to improve stat boosts on specific personality types to get the Digivolutions you want.
Load Enhancements

The Load Enhancement feature basically lets you feed Digimon to other Digimon to give them a big boost in EXP.
This is taught early in the game, but to maximize this feature, you might have thought of just converting or scanning every Digimon, leveling them up to max, and feeding them to your desired Digimon. That’s still great, but you want to wait until the scan rate hits 200% to maximize the stats.
If you are thinking of doing a 100% scan rate because you’ll just feed them to a Digimon anyway, it is still better to convert them with a 200% scan rate (Max) because you’ll Digivolve them. With higher evolutionary stages, you’ll get more EXP.
Since your box can hold a whopping 999 Digimon, you might as well keep them with higher stats (200% scan), Digivolve them to the highest level, level them up again, and feed them to your desired Digimon.
You want to use this loop:
- Convert at only 200% scan rates.
- Digivolve everything and keep the ones you need.
- Level the Champions and Ultimates until you can’t Digivolve because of not meeting stat requirements.
- Load Enhance the max ones you don’t want to keep.
Other Methods

While this may only be available to Ultimate Edition owners, it is worth noting that the Strategist’s USB Stick equipment provides a whopping 100% EXP boost to Digimon wearing it.
Apart from this equipment, you have also been taught to use the DigiFarm in the In-Between Theatre. It is mostly used to train and increase a particular Digimon stat, change their personality, or improve your bond. It doesn’t have anything about leveling, but it is worth noting that all Digimon inside the DigiFarm also earn experience points as you fight.
Leveling Methods

As for the actual leveling method, you just have to know how the Digimon respawn in the area. Digimon can respawn in the same area, but not near your character. Pay attention to the size of the area and the density of the enemies that spawn.
A place like the Gear Forest or the Abyss Palace has a high density of Digimon, making it a great place to grind levels. You want a large area with high-density Digimon spawns and roam around, preferably with access to another area. Transferring between locations instantly respawns the Digimon, so you can also go back and forth between areas to respawn Digimon.
So, you’ll want to go to the highest level you can farm comfortably and start DigiAttacking uncontrollably until you level up, especially using all the information you learned before this section.
Outer Dungeons in the In-Between Theatre should also be great, but only if you have access to it. If you are struggling with the current content in the story, you should keep bouncing around areas, use the leveling techniques mentioned before, and try to increase the power of your team.
It also helps to plan your Digivolutions beforehand. If you are leveling to Digivolve and require more than just level, which is usually the case for strong Digimon, you’ll want to level up the Digimon and place the ones with unique Digivolutions on the farm and increase their stats to attain the requirements for Digivolutions.
