Tears of the Kingdom: How to Get the Magic Rod in TotK

It's a kind of magic.

Having an array of strong weapons is essential in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and with the newly implemented Fuse mechanic, finding strong tools isn’t as simple as taking down some enemies and stealing their loot anymore. If you’re struggling to find something to leave an impact, you’ll need to dig a little further than just picking up rusty weapons in the overworld, but that’s not to say that these stronger weapons don’t exist within the game.

There are numerous high-quality weapons you can get ahold of throughout Hyrule, and the Magic Rod is a perfect example of a strong weapon that can become even stronger when fused with other materials, so it’s an essential find for anyone struggling with a certain enemy or looking to get that little bit stronger. However, it’s not as easy to come across as your standard Rusty Claymore. Here’s how to get the Magic Rod in Tears of the Kingdom.

Where to Find the Magic Rod in Tears of the Kingdom

The easiest way to get ahold of a Magic Rod is by heading into the depths, collecting Poe, and visiting a Bargainer Statue. You can exchange 100 Poes for a Magic Rod, which isn’t that much once you start collecting. The best way to ensure you have enough Poes is by fast-traveling to any of your unlocked Lightroots and wandering around. Fortunately, Poes aren’t in short supply in the Depths so you’re bound to pick up at least 100 in no time. Each Bargainer Statue you speak to will have the same stock, so you won’t need to worry about heading to one, in particular, to find the Magic Rod once you’ve got the Poes.

There are several ways to utilize the powers of the Magic Rod, and while it will still break like your standard weapon, it’s worth maximizing its power with gemstones to get the most use out of it. The weapon relies on elemental attacks to become stronger which can be changed by fusing different gems to the top. Attaching a ruby will result in fire attacks, a Sapphire will result in ice-based attacks capable of freezing enemies, Topaz will utilize lightning-based attacks, and using an Opal will harness water-based attacks. All of these gemstones are fairly common around Goron City, so instead of immediately selling them for some extra Rupees, it might be worth holding onto them should you be brave enough to navigate the depths in search of this weapon.
