Where to Find and Catch Sunset Fireflies in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

There are two main ways to get Sunset Fireflies in Tears of the Kingdom:

  • Purchase up to three per day from Beedle at Highland Stable for 10 Rupees.
  • Search the overworld for flying, glowing insects and sneak up on them.

Fireflies are a common insect you’ll find as you explore the world at night. However, you won’t find them during the day, so make sure you’re out between 9 PM and 5 AM. If you want to speed up time, sit by a fire and fast forward to night!

I first noticed some of these fireflies while unlocking the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower. Before entering the cave entrance at coordinates (0602, -2219, 0053), I saw a lone little firefly and caught it before moving on with the adventure. Teleporting here is worthwhile if you have already unlocked or plan to visit the tower.

Other particularly good spots include parts of Kakariko Village and around Pyper’s campsite, who you’ll meet during the “The Flute Player’s Plan” quest.

Make sure you move as slowly as possible while sneaking up on the fireflies. You can crouch if you need to by pressing down on the left thumbstick or equip some Stealthy armor if you have it. Better yet, if you have a Sneaky Elixir on you, you can use that to increase your odds of catching it successfully.

Additionally, you can visit Highland Stable and purchase three Sunset Fireflies from Beedle for 10 Rupees each. It’s much faster to do this, but it’ll get expensive if you want to buy a bunch for quests or elixirs.

What Are Sunset Fireflies Used For in TOTK?

There are a few situations where you’ll need Sunset Fireflies. They are the primary ingredient for Sneaky Elixirs, which give you increased stealth for a few minutes. Mix them with monster parts in a cooking pot to make the elixir, and add extras to boost its duration.

Another reason to search for Sunset Fireflies is to gather 10 for Pyper so you can help him impress a girl, allowing you to meet Great Fairy Kaysa. Things get wild in this game, but hey, we’re all for doing some fetch quests for the greater good of Hyrule.
