The Isle of Gods is one of the final main quests in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Throughout this quest, you will face difficult choices between your two companions, each with lasting consequences. In this guide, we have explained in detail to help you decide whether Davrin or Harding is better for the distraction mission in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Outcome of Sending Harding or Davrin for Distraction in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
BioWare continues its tradition of tough choices in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, asking players to sacrifice one beloved character between Davrin and Harding. While this choice, when presented to you, may seem straightforward, it has a lasting impact—not on the main storyline, but on the characters’ arcs and the way you feel about each of them.
No matter whichever character you select to lead the distraction during the “Isle of Gods” main quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, one of them will die by the end of it. This applies to both Harding and Davrin.
Ghilan’nain will be the boss who ends the life of whichever beloved companion you choose to lead the distraction. This decision is not so much about consequences—they are the same either way—but more about whether Harding or Davrin is the right choice for this honorable sacrifice.
You will not lose any approval points from other companions. Instead, depending on who you choose, you will witness all of your current companions mourning the loss of either Harding or Davrin.

Should You Pick Harding for Distraction?
Harding is a Rogue class character with excellent support abilities such as healing and various elemental attacks. This makes her a great companion to have in the party if you want an attack and support ally by your side.
However, if you are already playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard with a Rogue character, then it is unwise to have Harding, another Rogue companion, by your side. The team or party benefits the most when you have diverse classes, as you can benefit from each’s unique abilities in combat.
On the other hand, there are side quests and potential romance options involving Harding. She is by your side from the start, and you will likely build the highest approval with her, possibly even getting close to a romance. However, if you decide to send Harding on a distraction mission, this romance option will be permanently lost.
You get the following side quests related to Harding as a part of companion quests in the game:
- An Unfamiliar Sense
- The Waiting Stone
- The Bond Rekindled
- The Heart Of The Titan
- The Eternal Hymn
While it is possible some of these could be completed earlier in the game, there could be a few you could miss out as Harding will be gone forever if Ghilan’nain kills her.
If none of these reasons we mentioned above make Harding a valuable or likable character for you, then it might be best to choose her for the distraction mission, giving her an honorable death.

Should You Pick Davrin for Distraction?
Davrin is a Warrior class character who is an excellent companion for dealing damage to enemies and bosses during combat. While the companions are mainly used to support you in luring enemies to them, giving you health, providing various buffs, and applying elemental attacks on foes, dealing damage is the one thing Rook should do.
While the AI in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is great, it still relies heavily on your orders during combat. That is why the damage-dealing part should never be left to a companion in the game.
If you are playing as a Warrior class character, Davrin becomes a more dispensable companion and a stronger candidate for the distraction during the ‘Isle of Gods’ main quest. As a Warrior, you will already have access to key abilities and can use them quickly in combat, making it less necessary to rely on a Warrior companion like Davrin for tasks you can perform more efficiently yourself.
The downsides of sending Davrin on the distraction mission—and ultimately losing him—are similar to the consequences of choosing Harding. You will lose access to Davrin for the remainder of the game, and any potential romance interactions you have been building with him will be gone.
Davrin has the following side quests, some of which may become unavailable depending on whether you have completed them before the ‘Isle of Gods’ mission:
- How to Train a Griffon
- A Friend In Need
- The Profane And The Lost
- Home Roost
