Sometimes, killing someone in cold blood is the best option. But should you kill Abdirak in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Should You Kill Abdirak in Baldur’s Gate 3? – Answered (BG3)
As you delve into the goblin encampment, Shattered Sanctum, you’ll likely soon find yourself in the torture chamber of Abdirak. Abdirak is a devotee of the Maiden of Pain, Loviatar, and he absolutely adores inflicting as much pain as possible. And if you let him beat you a little, you’ll get the Loviatar’s Love buff, which lasts until your character dies.
But the real question is, should you kill him? Morally, he’s in the goblin encampment to help them refine their torture technique, which is a net negative for pretty much everyone but Loviatar and the goblins. In terms of practicality… it’s also not a bad idea to kill him. Killing him will net you the uncommon mace, Loviatar’s Scourge, which can only be found on Abdirak.
Loviatar’s Scourge does 1d6 of bludgeoning damage and 1d6 of necrotic damage. But its special ability, Willing Whip, grants resistance to Necrotic Damage and deals an additional 1-6 Necrotic damage to nearby targets, including the wielder. It makes sense that a weapon for Loviatar would hurt you too, right?
By killing Abdirak, you can loot this mace from his body. Or you can talk to Abdirak and select the trade button when it’s highlighted. You’ll have the option to trade with Abdirak when it’s your time to talk. You can’t pickpocket the mace off Abdirak, nor can you sit around and hope the spiders kill him once you start your siege on the Shattered Sanctum. Once the goblin leaders are killed, Abdirak will quickly leave the scene.
But before you kill (or spare) Abdirak, be sure to save the nearby Volo and Owlbear Cub first! You wouldn’t want to turn the Shattered Sanctum hostile before your friends are out of harm’s way.
