Rise of the Ronin Save File Location on PC

This needs a patch or two.

After almost a year of exclusivity, Rise of the Ronin has made its way out of the console mines onto PC. Sadly, it isn’t all good news, because the launch hasn’t been smooth with reports of poor performance, even on high-end hardware.

That said, it has support for most Steam features, as well as cloud saves. If you’re looking for your local progress files instead, here is the Rise of the Ronin save files location on PC.

The save file you’re looking for is SAVADATA.BIN, but I recommend backing up the entire “Ronin” folder so you can also keep the backup save files safe for any future playthrough. Rise of the Ronin is only available on PC through the Steam client.

You can access the same location by entering the following address in Windows Run or File Explorer:

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\KoeiTecmo\Ronin\

Rise of the Ronin Steam Features

Rise of the Ronin comes with support for Steam Cloud, so all your saved data is uploaded to the Steam servers when you close the title. Similarly, if you’re playing the game on a different machine, all your progress will be automatically downloaded.

Outside of that, the game has support for several Steam features as well, including:

  • Achievements: 51 Achievements in total.
  • Steam Input: This allows players to use any controller type with the game thanks to the Steam Input layer.
  • Steam Family Share: This lets you share the game with your family members on their Steam accounts.
  • Steam Trading Cards
  • Point Shop Items
  • Steam Leaderboards

It also has some form of regional pricing, which is always appreciated. It doesn’t require any online account either, which makes sense because PlayStation only published this on the PS5, and not on PC.

However, despite all these neat features, Rise of the Ronin is in desperate need of some optimization patches. The game simply doesn’t run well even if you have a powerful PC. It does not warrant the performance of the visuals on display even if this is their most technically advanced title.
