The time has finally come, and today Capcom released the free Not a Hero DLC for Resident Evil 7. The DLC sees the return of Chris Redfield, the main character in several of the previous Resident Evil games. Redfield has become a staple in the series, and seeing him back has many fans excited, there’s only one problem, some players seem to be having trouble finding the DLC and getting it started. Today we’ll go over everything you need to know to find the DLC in the store, download it, and dive right into the next chapter of the Resident Evil 7 story.

How to Download Not a Hero

Unlike the rest of the DLC that has been released for Resident Evil 7 so far, Not a Hero won’t come in the expansion pass. Instead, the game is available to freely download on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. For PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users, the job is simple. All you’ll need to do is head to the store of your platform’s choosing, search for Not a Hero in the search bar, and then download the file. This will add it directly to your game, allowing you to launch it from the main game’s menu.

If you’re playing on the PC, though, things are a little sketchier, as there seems to have been an issue with the way that the DLC was pushed through to the store (at least that’s what many users have speculated) as the DLC doesn’t always download for you.

To find the DLC on Steam, head to the store and search for Not a Hero. It should appear as the third option in the list (it may appear differently for you, though there are several options listed to choose from). Click on it to be taken to the store page for the game. You can also save time by going straight to the Not a Hero store page. Once on the page, find the Download button and click it. Now, this should automatically launch the base game, and kick off the download in the background. Because of this, you’ll need to exit out of the game and wait for the DLC to download.

For many, though (and we experienced the same issue ourselves) the DLC isn’t automatically downloading when you click the Download button. This means that the Not a Hero content is never making it into the game, and can thus never be launched—which is a bit of a bummer. You can solve this easily, though, and thanks to Reddit users we were able to get our own game working and download the new DLC.

To fix the DLC download on Steam, make sure to head to the Library and then right-click on Resident Evil 7. From here, head to the DLC tab, find the Not a Hero DLC in the dropdown, and then uncheck it and recheck it. This should trigger the download. From here, simply wait on the download to finish.

How to Start Not a Hero

Starting Not a Hero is just as easy as its ever been to start a piece of Resident Evil 7’s DLC. All you need to know is load up the game. You will need to make sure you at least have a single save file. If you don’t, play through the main game until you reach the first building, head up the stairs, and save the game with the tape recorder. Then quit to the main menu.

From the main menu, scroll down the list of options and find the Extra Content listing. Press on this, and it should take you to a screen showcasing all the current DLC available for Resident Evil 7. You should easily spot Not a Hero in this list, right above End of Zoe, the latest DLC for the expansion pass. All you need to do now is just choose the DLC and launch it.
