Rayquaza Raid Guide for Pokemon GO: Weaknesses and Counters

From February 22 (10:00 AM) to March 1 (10:00 AM), Rayquaza can be found at 5-Star Raids. It will tote a vicious 49,808 CP and you’ll need at least two players to take it on, but more is always better. If you manage to catch it, Rayquaza will join your party with 2102-2191 CP and the unique move Breaking Swipe.

And yes! Rayquaza can be Shiny in Pokemon GO.

Now, let’s get into how we can actually bring this Legendary down. Rayquaza is a dual-elemental with Dragon- and Flying-Typing. With this typing, Rock, Fairy, Dragon, and Ice attacks will all do double damage to Rayquaza.

Rayquaza’s moves are hard-hitting but don’t offer much coverage, which keeps our choices open. The moves you can expect Rayquaza to bring to the fight are:

Fast Moves

  • Air Slash (Flying)
  • Dragon Tail (Dragon)

Charged Moves

  • Outrage (Dragon)
  • Aerial Ace (Flying)
  • Ancient Power (Rock)

Knowing this, here are the best counters to Rayquaza in Pokemon GO.

Best Counters to Rayquaza in Pokemon GO

The Pokemon are listed according to damage per second and their capacity to win a fight against Rayquaza. If you don’t have a Shadow version of a Pokemon listed, it’s fine. The normal version will have less attack but should still be effective.

  • Shadow Mamowine → Powder Snow and Avalanche
  • Shadow Weavile → Ice Shard and Avalanche
  • Shadow Mewtwo → Psycho Cut and Ice Beam
  • Galarian Darmanitan → Ice Fang and Avalanche
  • Glaceon → Frost Breath and Avalanche
  • Kyurem → Draong Breath and Glaciate
  • Articuno → Frost Breath and Ice Beam

If you don’t have any of these Pokemon, opt for your hardest hitting Ice Type and hope for the best! Good luck bringing down the Sky High Legendary, trainer.

Rayquaza isn’t the only Legendary that’s making a big splash in Pokemon GO. Pick your side: Ruby or Sapphire in the Pokemon GO Tour: Hoenn.
