First off you’ll obviously need to catch yourself a Basculin, which can be a bit tricky because they love to run away when spotted. Using Smoke Bombs or Stealth Spray is a great way to get in close on the water and throwing a quick Poke Ball can nab you an instant catch.

You’ll find Basculin hanging out at the three lakes around the world as well as in the river at the beginning of the Coronet Highlands area.

Once you’ve caught a Basculin the next step is to make sure it knows a move that will cause recoil damage. Most Basculin will have Double-Edge or can be taught the move at the Training Grounds.

Once it knows this move, it needs to accrue 300 total recoil damage without fainting. The easiest way to accomplish this is to go to the Obsidian Fieldlands and use Double Edge on a bunch of low-level Pokemon and resting up at the camp every time you run out of PP or run low on health.

Once Basculin has accrued enough recoil damage, the “Can Evolve” notification will pop and you’ll have a brand new Basculegion.
