Pokemon GO September 2023 Community Day Features Grubbin: Event Date and Time, Event Bonuses, Research, and More

Get your grubby hands on Grubbin.

Pokemon GO’s September Community Day will feature Grubbin, the larvae Pokemon first introduced in Generation VII. Trainers can get their hands on this interesting Bug Pokemon, which evolves into dual Bug Electric Pokemon Vikavolt. Here is everything you need to know to prepare for September’s Grubbin Community Day in Pokemon GO.

Everything to Know About September’s Pokemon GO Community Day Featuring Grubbin

Date and Time

The September Pokemon GO Community Day featuring Grubbin will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time.

Evolve a Charjabug (evolution of Grubbin) during the Community Day itself or up to five hours past the event end time to obtain a Vikavolt that knows the Fast Attack Volt Switch. Charjabug evolved from Grubbin during this time will also learn Volt Switch.

Volt Switch

  • Trainer Battles: 12 power
  • Gyms and raids: 14 power

To evolve Charjabug into Vikavolt you need to be in proximity of a Magnetic Lure.

Community Day Special Research Story

There will be a Community Day Special Research Story titled Plugging Along. This will cost $1 USD or the equivalent in your local currency. Once available in the shop, players can either purchase it for themselves or gift to people on their friends list that they are Great Friends or higher with.

Timed Research

Between 2PM and 10PM local time, players will have the opportunity to participate in Timed Research which rewards one Magnetic Lure.

Field Research

Between 2PM and 5PM local time, spinning PokeStops will reward players with Grubbin Community Day specific Field Research tasks. These tasks will reward players with additional Grubbin encounters, Ultra Balls, Stardust, and more.

Event Bonuses

The following Event Bonuses will be active during the event.

  • Trainers will receive 3x XP when catching Pokemon.
  • Trainers will receive 2x Candy when catching Pokemon.
  • Trainers level 31 and above will have a 2x chance of obtaining XL Candy when catching Pokemon.
  • Lure Modules activated during event hours will last for three hours.
  • Incense activated during event hours will last for three hours.
  • The first five Snapshots will reward trainers with Grubbin encounters.
  • When trading during the event, each trade will require 50% less Stardust.
  • An additional Special Trade can be performed.

Bonus Raid Battles after Community Day

When Community Day is over, trainers will be able to participate in bonus Raid Battles which feature Charjabug. Defeating these battles will spawn additional Grubbin around the Gym for the next thirty minutes.


You must use a Raid Pass or Premium Raid Pass to participate in the Bonus Raid Battles. You will be unable to use a Remote Raid Pass to participate.

Grubbin Community Day themed stickers are available to purchase through the in-game store. You can also obtain these adorable Fall-themed stickers through opening Gifts and spinning PokeStops during the event.

During Grubbin Community Day, trainers will be able to participate in PokeStop Showcases featuring Grubbin.
