Pokemon Go – Pokemon Appraisal, How it Works

Learn how Pokemon appraisal works in the latest Pokemon Go update from Niantic.
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

This article covers how to do an appraisal on your Pokemon in Pokemon Go. Niantic has updated the Pokemon Go app to add the ability to appraise your Pokemon to learn about their attack and defense capabilities. It’s a fairly simple procedure, but learning the attack and defense capabilities of your Pokemon can help you quite a bit during gym battles (which have also seen a slight change in the most recent patch).

The team leaders in Pokemon Go (Candela, Blanche and Spark) give you this new information. Simply go to your Pokemon screen and tap on the one you’re interested in learning about. Tap the circular button on the lower right to open the menu (this is also where you can trade Pokemon for Candy) and tap on the Appraise option.

Once your team leader appears, tap the screen a few more times to read through the text on the screen and continue the conversation. This conversation will inform you of your Pokemon’s offensive and defensive powers and give you some insight into their Individual Value (IV). If you’re looking for more information on IV, be sure to check out our guide on how to find out the IV of every Pokemon.
