Pokemon GO Community Day Vote Winners and Event Details

The People's Porygon
This article is over 3 years old and may contain outdated information

The results are in, and it’s time to bow down to king Porygon. Niantic held a vote over the weekend between four Pokemon, with the end goal of having the community choose the next two months of Community Day events. The vote was between porygon, Charmander, Grimer, and Caterpie, and the votes ended up being pretty lopsided! So with the vote out of the way, it’s time to detail not only the two winners, but what these results mean for Pokemon GO itself.

The winner, by a pretty significant margin, was Porygon! The community really banded behind Porygon, campaigning for the low-key oddball favorite over all the other choices. Of course, it’s hard to beat classic characters in any competition, so Charmander wasn’t too far behind. The other two, however, didn’t do so well. Porygon ran away with over 50% of the vote, while Caterpie and Grimer couldn’t manage even 10% combined. See the results for yourselves further down this post!

As far as the game itself is concerned, this vote is impacting two specific dates in Pokemon GO over the next two months. The first date is September 20, 2020, which will be the Community Day event for the winner, Porygon. The cool part is that if you evolve a Community Day Porygon all the way to Porygon-Z, you’ll get Tri Attack, which will be brand new to Pokemon GO. This is a Normal-type attack, and can decrease an opponent’s Attack and Defense. There’s no doubt the allure of a totally new move to try out drew votes.

Then, on October 17, the runner-up Charmander will get the Community Day spotlight treatment. Charmander won’t be seeing any new features, but it will get a unique move other Charmanders won’t have naturally. Once you evolve a Community Day-caught Charmander up to Charizard, it will learn Dragon Breath. Not only is Dragon Breath a great move to counter Dragon-type Pokemon, it’s a “Fast Attack,” which means you’ll be able to toss it out during a match relatively quickly.

Sadly, fans of Butterfree and Muk are going to have to wait for another day, in the hopes that a new opportunity to see a special move come to these two will manifest. And as usual, Community Day events also bring on other neat bonuses, but niantic hasn’t revealed that information yet.
