Best Chansey Movesets for Pokemon GO Gym Battles (PvE)

Chansey is one of the more popular choices for Pokemon GO gyms, and if you want to make the most of our helpful pink friend, here are the best offensive and defensive movesets.

Best Offensive Chansey Pokemon GO Gym Battle Moveset

If you’re brave enough to use Chansey to challenge a Gym, the best moveset for it would be Pound and Hyper Beam. Chansey gains a Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) since these two attacks are Normal-type; in other words, Chansey always does extra damage when using Normal-type moves.

Unfortunately, Normal is an awful offensive type, as it’s unable to hit anything super effectively. Chansey may shine as a Gym defender, but you may be better off using another Pokémon to clear the Gym out first.

Best Defensive Chansey Pokemon GO Gym Battle Moveset

Once you’ve claimed a Gym, leave your Chansey with a moveset of Zen Headbutt and Dazzling Gleam. One of the more unique Pokemon GO movesets because it actively avoids STAB moves. This is what gives Chansey its Gym versatility, however: Zen Headbutt and Dazzling Gleam both hit Fighting-type opponents for super effective damage, helping Chansey threaten the Pokémon that would usually instead threaten it.

Psychic may seem like a solid alternative to Dazzling Gleam, but Dazzling Gleam is stronger. It also has the benefit of being Fairy-type. By giving Chansey a Psychic-type and Fairy-type move rather than two Psychic-type moves, it will be able to cover more offensive ground and deal with more kinds of threats.

Best Chansey Moveset for the Pokemon GO Battle League (PvP)

If you want to bring your Chansey out of the Gym and into the League, the best moveset to use is Pound with Dazzling Gleam and Hyper Beam. Like in Gym defense, Dazzling Gleam has fantastic coverage. Since you can’t guarantee what Pokémon you’ll be battling and may not get super effective hits off of Zen Headbutt, you will want the STAB from Pound. Hyper Beam also hits hard and gets STAB from Chansey’s Normal typing, and unlike in Gym battles, it can’t be avoided as easily.

Chansey may not be the best choice to bring into PvP, but it’s so great for Gyms that it’s worth having both a Chansey and a Blissey in your reserves. Check out our guide on the February 2024 Chansey Community Day event, and be prepared to train up the best Chansey and Blissey you can.
